FAQ'sHow Durable is Macrocarpa? Heart Macrocarpa is classed as moderately durable. In the building code it is classed as being of similar durability as H3.1 radiata pine. Therefore it can be used where durability is an issue in:
Where it is used stucturally outside, it must be relatively easily observed and able to be replaced if necessary. For building code purposes, our advice is to ask your building regulator for a 15 year life. For decking, Macrocarpa has been getting good feedback but it must be recognised that it may have a limited life in severe conditions. For garden edging and sleepers, Macrocarpa has been used extensively. Here also it can last many years but there will be some situations where failure will happen after 5 or 6 years. It must be recognised that most sleepers are the lowest grade and therefore more prone to water damage. |
