Can Macrocarpa Go In-Ground?

Ensis (forestry research) trials have shown heart 50x50 macrocarpa stakes deteriorated after 15 years in the ground.

As with most naturally durable woods there is a considerable variability with macrocarpa.

Macrocarpa has for many years been used inground for pergolas, fence posts etc.

Some additional protection is advisable, but it must be recognised that in all probability some replacement will have to take place.

eg. Clients have just replaced 100x100 posts put in concrete 16 years ago.
