Questions About Our KitsetsHow long will my Macrocarpa kitset last? Left untreated and out in the elements, Macrocarpa will last for many years. Although naturally durable timber is quite variable in life expectancy inground. Raised garden kitsets should last a minimum of 5 years but most people report back to us that sawn inground posts have lasted at least 20 years.
Will Macrocarpa fade? Yes... it will fade to a silver/grey if left unstained, painted or oiled. (Many people love this natural weathered look!) To prevent weathering, you can use natural oils, paints or stains to get your desired effect.
Will my Macrocarpa crack? All timber cracks and splits, this is normal and a natural part of weathering. As moisture is held and released, Macrocarpa can gain cracks/checks. Houses made of timber crack and it has no impact on the structural strength of the timber.
Do I need a base on my garden bed? Not unless you are wanting one (we can do them with bases if desired). Some customers put shadecloth/weedmat or newspaper on the base of their garden beds but this isn't a necessity.. leaving it open allows for better drainage through to the soil below. |
