About Macrocarpa & Cypress

THE NATURAL BUILDING SOLUTION

CHOOSE:

MACROCARPA, THE TIMBER WITH: BEAUTY.. STRENGTH.. DURABILITY.. SUSTAINABILITY

Macrocarpa has become the timber of choice for many home owners of today.

A member of the cypress family (cuppressus), cypress has been known and recorded as a valuable building timber historically since biblical times. Scientists at Scion ( NZ timber research) have long held the view that Macrocarpa and other similiar cypresses are a valuable timber resource to the NZ and Asian building trade. They have always recognised macrocarpa's natural durability, consistent stuctural strength, and sort after decorative appeal.

MacDirect sells timber to a diverse range of end users, from framing timbers and large stuctural/decorative beams,  to cladding, pannelling/sarking, flooring, and decking, through to finishing work in joinery.  For outside use MacDirect supplies macrocarpa kitsets for tables, raised garden beds, compost bins, cape cod chairs, etc.(see kitsets)

Because it is not treated with chemicals, it is becoming the popular option for public areas such as schools, parks, golf courses and home gardens.

Macrocarpa clears are sought after by the boatbuilder and cabinet maker.

MacDirects' Macrocarpa is 90% plantation grown trees, for high quality timber.  Macrocarpa is a New Zealand exotic with quite extensive new plantings.

Macrocarpa is recognised as one of the most eco-friendly timbers New Zealand produces.

See margin bulletpoints for detailled information.

 DID YOU KNOW?

  • Building with wood will make a significant contribution to reducting CO2 in the atmosphere.

  • That 1 Tonne of wood has absorbed approximately 1.7 tonne of carbon net, after manufacture.

  • ie. By simply choosing wood an average timber house reduces CO2 by 50 tonnes (equivalent to that emitted by flying 12 times around the world or what a car could use during its entire life).

  • By just choosing timber cladding alone, on average 8.5 tonne of CO2 has been taken out of the atmosphere!

  • That wooden ceiling sarking would also reduce CO2 by approximately 8.5 tonne.

  • That carbon is 'locked up' for the life of the house.

  • Any Macrocarpa waste is environmentally safe and friendly. (shavings, sawdust for the garden and farm, off-cuts for firewood).

In Summary: To build with Macrocarpa, is to build with nature, to build for the future

is to care for your present and future environment.
